You know those mornings when you wake up and all you want is pancakes? Come on, don’t tell me I’m the only one who has that feeling! Well, the other morning I had that feeling, and luckily I found a friend who was willing to snag a late breakfast with me, so we headed up to The Diner in Adams Morgan.

Not to get too personal, but after graduation and moving to the city, I got pretty out of shape. It coincided with my 21st birthday, so I think the ability to go out to bars for the first time, didn’t really help me stay in shape 😛
Also, DC’s culture seems to revolve around happy hours and going out to eat. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good happy hour (I promise I’ll do a post about my favorite outdoor happy hours soon!), but all that beer and restaurant food didn’t do anything for my waistline.
Plus, living in the District is expensive, so paying for a ridiculously pricey gym membership on top of rent and other expenses is out of the question for a lot of us. So, I thought I would give you my top three free ways to stay in shape!

For some reason, a few months ago I thought it would be a good idea to sign up for the Rock ‘n Roll half marathon…
I know, I’m crazy. But sign up I did, which means that the last few months have consisted of more running than I have ever done in my life! Luckily, I have an awesome roommate who was willing to train with me, and a friend who ran the marathon with me, so it wasn’t bad at all!
Finally, a few weeks ago, months of training (and attempting to motivate myself to train) paid off, and I finished my first half marathon!
*Quick note, sorry about the poor photo quality, most were taken while running!*

On Sunday, my friends had one of the best ideas ever… Taco Day!
We decided we use a gray day to visit as many DC taco joints as we could, getting one (or more) tacos at each place! What better way is there to spend a Sunday afternoon?
The group started at the farmer’s market in DuPont Circle. I will admit, I slept in, and didn’t catch up with the group until they hit the next stop on the list: District Taco.
I was late, so I only had time to grab a quick snap of the outside of the DuPont location before meeting my friends!

Welcome to DC Darling and my first post!
I’m pretty nervous honestly, it’s kind of scary to put yourself out there, to say “Hello world, look at me!”. In a way, it feels a little narcissistic, like, why do I think I’m so great that you would want to spend your coffee break reading through my silly thoughts about DC, food, and my attempts at being an adult?
Now, I know what I would be thinking if I were you…. “If this girl has so many qualms about writing a blog… why is she doing it??” And that’s a valid point, so here’s my explanation. Firstly, I love writing, I always have. When I was little I used to make my mum type up my stories because I was too young to actually write them myself, so this blog is a creative outlet for me. Secondly, I wanted to learn how to use WordPress (super nerdy reason right?), I’ve been teaching myself web development for a while now, so I figured it would be useful.
Finally, being afraid of putting myself out there seemed like a pretty crappy reason not to do something that I’ve been wanting to do for ages. So, I’m taking the plunge and hoping for the best! Let me know what you think 🙂
